What is your COVID vaccination policy?

Our preference is that all guests who book and travel with us on a day experience are fully vaccinated. Passengers may be requested to verify their vaccination status and if unvaccinated, should be aware that they may be required to wear face masks and physically distance. All government mandates applicable to vaccine requirements for visitors to day venues and service experiences will supersede the Journey Beyond day experience policy. Can I purchase a gift voucher?

Yes, you are provided with the option to purchase gift vouchers when booking a cruise.

Are the vessels wheelchair accessible?

Charles Darwin – The Dinner Cruise is wheelchair accessible, however, The Sunset Only Cruise is not wheelchair accessible.

Passengers must have some mobility and/or the presence of a carer who can assist them. Please note: toilets on the vessel are not wheelchair accessible as they are located down approximately 9 steps from the Captain’s Deck.

Please advise at time of booking if you have wheelchair bound passengers travelling. We are not able to accommodate electric wheelchairs.

Tumlaren – Is not wheelchair accessible.

Can we BYO drinks and food?

Darwin Harbour Cruise’s vessels both contain licensed bars and kitchens, therefore BYO alcohol or food is not permitted on our scheduled cruises. We accept cash, Visa or MasterCard (Amex is unavailable).

Charles Darwin – Offers a cruise snack menu for our Sunset cruise passengers.

Tumlaren – When exclusively chartering the vessel, BYO food and/or beverages is permitted at a charge of $150.00, which includes a large esky, 3 x 12kg bags of ice, acrylic glassware and a water station. BYO catering must be ‘ready to eat’ for example cheese platters, sushi platters, chips and dips. No cooking facilities are available or refrigeration.

Does your menu cater for dietary requirements?

The Charles Darwin Dinner cruise is a buffet. We can cater to all dietary requirements or allergies if we are advised at time of booking/prior to your cruise.

Do you offer transfers?

Darwin Harbour Cruise’s has a transfer service available from selected city hotels and are $19.00 per person return trip. Transfers are subject to availability and must be pre booked.

How long does the cruise go for?

The duration of both the Sunset and Dinner cruise is 2.5 hours. We start boarding at 5.30pm to depart promptly at 6pm. We dock at 8.30pm for guests to disembark.

Where do I park?

Parking on Stokes Hill Wharf is maximum of 3 hours. Given our boarding and embarking times we do not recommend guests park on the wharf, as fines are given if the 3 hours is exhausted. Our recommendation is to park over by the Darwin Convention Centre and walk the 400m across to Dock 3 for boarding.

Where do we board?

Our cruises depart from Dock 3, located at the very end of Stokes Hill Wharf, City Side. Our crew members will meet guests under the large white umbrellas and will commence boarding 30 minutes prior to the cruise departure time.

Where does the cruise go?

Both our vessels stay within Darwin harbour, generally we will leave Stokes Hill Wharf, travel along the Esplanade cruising along at 4 knots past the Larrakeyah Naval barracks, Cullen Bay and Fannie Bay. Darwin Harbour Cruise’s experienced skippers reserve the right to change the route subject to tidal conditions, guest’s safety and comfort. Tidal conditions determine how close to the coast we can operate.

What will we see?

Darwin Harbour Cruises has an experienced team member aboard who provides knowledgeable commentary of Darwin History, Cyclone Tracy and the bombing of Darwin. In the past we have seen crocodiles, dolphins, turtles and dugongs, however we do not guarantee you will see wildlife on your cruise.

You will experience a Sunset on Darwin Harbour followed by Darwin’s skyline lit up at night.

Onboard Questions

What do I need to bring?

We would recommend bringing:

  • Hat
  • Money (cash or credit card)
  • Camera
  • Ticket/voucher or booking confirmation

What will the weather be like? Does it get cold?

The top end weather is beautiful year round, regardless if it rains! The temperature drops to 25 degrees on the harbour, so if you are prone to the cold, please bring a light cardigan. The Charles Darwin contains two air-conditioned levels, which are a great option in the hotter months.

Do you provide sea sickness tablets?

No, if you are prone to sea sickness we recommend that you try a herbal ginger tablet prior to boarding the cruise.

Darwin harbour waters are generally calm, however we can encounter some rough conditions.

Are there toilet facilities on board?

Charles Darwin – Yes, the Captain Deck toilets are located down a small flight of stairs form our main deck. The Bridge Deck also has toilet facilities.

Tumlaren – Yes, available on the main deck level

Our bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible, we do recommend on using the wharf bathrooms before boarding.

Can I take a pram on board?

Small strollers are permitted on both our vessels, please advise our reservation team at time of booking. Children 3 & under travel free of charge.

Can you smoke on board?

No, there is no smoking permitted on either vessel.

Are there high chairs available onboard?

Hide

No, unfortunately high chairs are not available on board as the movement of the boat can be unpredictable.
